PAPERHOUSE STUDIO
Process
The majority of Lauren Bergrud's work is based in collaged mixed media and printmaking to form installations that boarder on 2D and 3D. She enjoys the idea of making an image, taking it apart and reworking it into another piece. It is the rebirth and renewal that Lauren seeks, creating a new life from fragments of the previous. The images in her pieces border on abstraction and reality, with only certain parts in focus further obscuring clarity. Color in these pieces is rapid and fluid, giving the pieces an unsteady feeling. The materials are used to build up the surface while adding their natural color, it is the evolution of growth, development, and decay that interests Lauren.

The images and abstractions in most of her work is based on the horse. Horses are a huge part of Lauren's life, as she lives and works with them. She looks to the interior structures that make them up and support their movement, mostly the skeletal and muscular systems. As something Lauren grew up with and studied she likes to think the horse is the form she knows best.
